June news
Harwell Feast
If you visited Harwell Feast recently you may have come across the Sustainable Harwell stand in the craft marquee. We had a brilliant day with lots of interest from people wanting more information and offering to help with the Community Orchard at the Rec. The group running the project will be contacting all those who registered their interest shortly. Click here to see what’s planned for this great community project.
Harwell Swifts were also demonstrating their swift boxes at the stand and many people showed interest in installing swift boxes on their houses in Harwell to support the endangered village swift population. If you are interested in having a swift box, please email jerry.pride@gmail.com at Harwell Swifts to discuss.
We want to express our thanks to The Feast organisers for putting on such a great village event.
So you think Harwell’s air is unpolluted? Think again!
An article by Dr Graham Sumner
Air pollution is invisible but pernicious. At high levels its effect on our health may be significant. We often assume that it is solely an urban/industrial problem. It is not. A website is now available which enables us to obtain an estimate of pollution levels for our immediate neighbourhood, based on postcode. Read more
Interested in receiving free smart plugs for your home?
Following the excellent talk by Equiwatt at our last meeting in May, we have been contacted by them to ask if any members of he group would like free smart plug/s for use in their home. More details here
If you would like to receive one or more plugs free of charge from Equiwatt, please email us at sustainable@harwellvillage.uk letting us know how many plugs you would like. Once we have an understanding of numbers we will make arrangements for these to be sent out.

Did you catch the Woman’s Tour passing through Harwell last weekend? It was great to see how much support there was along the high street. We are working to help improve conditions for cycling in and around Harwell to make it easier for people to jump on a bike for local journeys. Click here to read more about the things we are involved with.
Next meeting – a date for your diary
Our next meeting which is also our AGM will be at 7:30 pm in the village hall and on-line on Weds 7th September. Full details will be sent nearer the time but you may like to reserve the date in your diary now.
