Meeting notes
Attendees: Approximatey 20 people in the Village Hall and 4 people online.
Giles gave an update on two initiatives:
HarCars scheme
A survey of residents took place to gauge interest in an electric car sharing scheme within the Village.
There were three options:
- Community car share
- Peer-to-peer
- Commercial
After a meeting with the HarCars representatives, it was decided that the Community and Commercial schemes were not economically viable. The Peer-to-Peer scheme would be further investigated. Despite not being solely for electric vehicles it was still deemed to be environmentally friendly and have the potential to reduce the number of cars.
Hedging the Holloway
2 kms each side of the Holloway could be planted with hedgerow. Grants are available and the Woodland Trust might be a source of whips. Discussions with landowners have taken place and a positive response has been received. Help with the project will be sought from the village community. It is hoped that Chilton village will get involved and start planting from their end of the Holloway.
There were two separate presentations:
Malcolm Thick and Jane Card gave a very interesting talk on Fruit Trees Planted in Hedgerows and showed everyone a book printed in the 16th Century about hedgerow husbandry.
Martin Ricketts then gave a full history of the Community Orchard from conception to near completion. Future tasks are ongoing maintenance and pruning, planting a few more whips in the circular hedgerow, and installing a sign board depicting the layout of the Orchard and the varieties of all the trees.
