The extraordinary swift
Come and join us on Zoom on the first Weds in June to hear a talk about the extraordinary swift, by our guest speaker, Jerry Pride.
Shortly after moving to Harwell 25 years ago Jerry discovered that he shared his space with some truly exceptional birds – common swifts. Years of observation and study slowly revealed the lifecycle of the swift but also the fact that this species is highly endangered.
Jerry will describe how and why the swift came into his life, how a swift leaves the nest here and does not touch down again for 10 months, why swifts are so important to us, why we are so important to the swift, and what we can do to protect and sustain the small population of swifts we have in this area.
If you missed the talk, please email us to request a link to the recording.
Next meeting?
We’ll take a break and meet again in October (AGM) and December.
