Our purpose, currently, is to seek out areas that we can get permission to plant trees in, apply for either whips (bare root tree plants) from The Woodland Trust or obtain grants such as from The Tree Council to buy trees. We will also seek manpower to plant the trees/whips and look for an individual or small group to provide maintenance on these areas once planted.
Our first project is Harwell School where we have on order 420 whips from The Woodland Trust’s Wild Harvest Mix containing hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, dog rose, elder and rowan.
What we would like in the way of help from the parishioners of Harwell:
- Help with tree planting at The School in November
- Potting up young saplings that they find on their walks/in their gardens
- Help to maintain the trees after planting ( a tree warden group) i.e. watering
- Identify areas that could be suitable for planting
